Bappenas: UK Help Overcome Climate Change Program

The British government gave a commitment to Indonesia to tackle climate change in the program by 50 million pounds for the period 2011-2015.

Description The Ministry of National Development Planning / National Development Planning Board (Ministry of Planning / Bappenas) obtained in Jakarta, Sunday (21 / 8), said the commitment was intended for some projects that the majority has been running since 2008.


UK Government's commitment in environmental issues in Indonesia is also indicated by the formation of the United Kingdom Climate Change Unit (UKCCU). This unit was formed to support environmentally friendly development in Indonesia. UKCCU became a symbol of the British Government's recognition of the importance of the position of Indonesia in achieving goals related to British global climate change, economic growth, and poverty alleviation.
 

"Among the priorities of the National Medium Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2010-2014, food security, energy, and environment to be cross-cutting program is climate change. Since 2008, commitments related to climate change has been initiated in the Bali Action Plan, a program of emission reduction carbon, "said Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Ministry of Planning / Bappenas, Endah Murniningtyas.
 

Ministry of Planning / Bappenas and UKCCU has held a bilateral meeting at the House of Bappenas Jakarta on Monday (15 / 8).
 

Endah hope, with these targets and the implementation of sustainable economic development and low carbon, Indonesia will have a positive impact in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. It will also encourage other countries to do the same thing and getting a positive impact in international negotiations.
 

Meanwhile Chief UKCCU, Gerard Howe, stated that for 2011-2015 the British government's commitment to Indonesia in the climate change program of 50 million pounds consisting of several projects which the majority has been running since 2008. UKCCU focus in Indonesia is a land use change and forests, low carbon development, as well as international climate negotiations.
 

"The British government gave its support to Indonesia Climate Change Trust Fund (ICCTF) since 2009 and there are three new programs supported ICCTF UKCCU the sustainable management of tilling the soil by the Ministry of Agriculture, energy conservation by the Ministry of Industry, as well as public awareness, training, and education by Meteorology and Geophysics (BMKG), "Howe said.
